Any advice on getting a cleaner?

I am thinking on getting a cleaner for up to 2 hours a week in Farnborough. Where should I go to find one (approach a big company or put an ad in the local Post Office)? What questions should I ask? How much should I expect to pay?Any advice on getting a cleaner?
I have a housecleaning job and I make $15 an hour. I do not work through an agency. Some people charge $20 an hour.Any advice on getting a cleaner?
You will be able to find local cleaning companies in yellow pages/thomson (yell.com or thomsonlocal.com) they will be more expensive (typically 拢12 +/hour) but will offer insurance and guarantees, and provide cleaning materials/products

Have a look in your local newsagents/post office windows or the notice board at your supermarket to find a local cleaner - or place your own job advert if not. Expect to pay around 拢6 per hour. The Lady magazine classified adverts section is always a good source of good housekeepers and cleaners, too.

In my experience, don't bother asking too many questions - this is a cleaning job, not chairman of the board - and you may put a very good cleaner off coming to work for you by having a ';formal'; interview.

You will either like the idea of the candidate being in your home or not - go with your gut instinct. Ask for and check references beforehand - then insist on a trial period, before offering the job on a permanent basis.

Or you can go to a domestic staff agency to find you a cleaner/housekeeper - (e.g. greycoatplacements.co.uk) You will pay an agency fee, but the candidate will have had their references checked and will usually have an up-to-date CRB certificate (criminal records check) - insisted upon for anyone working where there are young children.

Hope this helps!
Look in the phone book and call around getting estimates..

Good Luck ; )
don't go to a company, you'll be paying for their overheads, ask around friends/neighbours and try and get someone who is recommended. Pay wise again ask friends neighbours what they are paying, I would have thought 拢6.50 to 拢10 per hour is the going rate, but it all depends what you want her to do,. some wont clean windows, do your ironing, so have some idea what you want her to do and tell her. if she wants extra for jobs that aren't classed as cleaning then be flexible
make sure you get at least 2 references. advertise in the local paper. or shop window. and expect to pay around 拢7.per hour. you need to find out as much as you can make phone calls to last employers and give them a months trial.
you should pay between 5 pounds and 6 pounds an hour, cos this is what i get
How about organising things, so that you can do your own cleaning!!!!

If you must have a cleaner, I think the going rate is about 拢8 per hour....plus, you have to provide ALL of the cleaning materials.

Good luck.
You definitely want references and do check them out. Questions asked would include:

How long have you been doing this kind of work?

What do you expect to be paid per hr?

May I check your references and/or last employer?

Do you offer any type of guarantee(depend on what they may be doing if this is necessary)?

You will need to ask if they do whatever it is you require of them. ie: if you want laundry or windows done, you need to ask if these would be included in their duties or can they do it additionally for a price? Some persons would include this in ';general'; housework, some may not.

Are you available these days and/or hrs? (whatever you need)

Must the house be empty or can they work with someone there?

You may look in the telephone directory also for Maid Services or Janitorial services.

If you just know a friend who needs a few extra bucks you may offer it to them also if it won't offend them. You say you need someone for only a short time per week so it shouldn't be too hard. Maybe even contact your local high school or employment office to look for help. Where my daughter went to school they had an organiztion called SHOP (Students Helping Older Persons) where the school took requests mostly from senior citizens and assigned 2 students at a time to go to the persons home for a minimum of 2 hrs to provide companionship and light housework. The kids earned credits for each time they went to a home and completed an assignment. The school would check with the recipient to see if they showed up on time, were courteous, performed all that was asked of them, etc. It worked rather well here in the states. You may suggest it to your local school if they have no such program in existence. It could prove valuable for them both. The students had to be at least 16 yrs old and could be male or female. the recipient was asked if they preferred male or female or both to attend to their needs. My daughter made some great friends out of her experience doing this too. I would expect to pay around $9.00 an hr at least. As stated, it depends on what you need done. If it requires more strenuous activity like cutting grass as oppossed to laundry or just dusting, you will pay accordingly.
