Call the vets office!!! That is part of what you pay for, their advice on what to do afterwards! I haven't ever cleaned a cat's stitches after they had surgery (spaying). The cat will usually do that themselves (just make sure that they don't lick them out).My cat gizmo had an operation and had to get several stitches i need advice on how to keep them clean?
So your vet wasn't as thorough as he should've been....call him up and remind him that this is something you need to know.
I know you can use calendula (marigold) lotion to heal them up fast. It won't hurt him if he licks at it and will be soothing as well. That's available in health food stores.

If he is pulling at them then you might have to get an Elizabethan collar for him at the vet's. If the vet didn't send you home with one then he probably didn't deem it necessary. And if you notice any problems call the vet and see about getting one.
my cat lulu had a few stiches after her operation .and the vet said to clean it with a qtip . i would put warm water with a little soap on the wound every day. if it looks red pour 1part peroxide 4 parts water .do not dry let it dry by it self. good-luck to you and gizmo
my name is ron. from. OK

do not let your cat lick the stitches her ruff tung makes

it flame up and well try to pull them out.. you need a E-collar

plus call the vet and they well tell what to put on her if you

cant afford to go......
Your Vet didn't give you any advice because it's not necessary for you to mess with the stitches AT ALL. Your cat will continue to keep him/herself clean. They don't usually mess with their stitches.

Just keep an eye on the incision. If you see unusual redness or swelling contact your Vet. You SHOULD feel free to contact him/her with ANY questions you may have. If not, I would find another Vet.

GOOD LUCK!!
best bet is to call your vets office and ask them
Actually I've worked with dogs which were operated on with stitches and we used regular baby oil ( J%26amp;J or other generic) mineral oil and something like neosporine; for a few days keep it covered if it's in a spot they can get to; so as not to reopen the wound. After the reddness around the wound starts to decrease .....leave open, an clean once a day depending on how active your pet is. Most care should be right after the procedure .....noted that cats and dogs have about 10 times the recupratory powers that human beings. Their licking and grooming with their tongues helps this process.
instead of kitty litter put cut up news paper in there try to keep him from licking him self
I can't believe your vet didn't give you any instructions on how to keeping the incision clean and what to watch for. use a damp cloth (just water, no soap) and lightly dab the area if it looks unclean, don't let your cat lick the area to much or it will infect or tear the stitches, and check often for any oozing or tearing, call the vet immediately if they are. If the surgery was just done, keep the cat from travelling any stairs or jumping, which is hard to do but I confined mine to a room with litter and food and water. That applies just for 48 hours. This is what I was given in a form from my vet when they had surgery. I would call the vet too and see if he put in dissolving stitches too.you need to know if you need to go back or not.Hope this helps.
ur cat will keep them clean itself - just watch he/she doesn't try taking them out - ur vet should have advised you that you will need a check up with them after 3 days %26amp; stitches out after 10 days
