Why don't people go to Doctors to get medical advice instead of Yahoo!?

Seriously though its the DOCTORS asking the questions. Havent you been to a doctor where s/he asks alot of questions types on his computer, leaves the room for a minute then comes back and says ';now where were we?'; looks back at their computer and goes ';oh yes i see'; and then gives you the answer to all your problems. Why don't people go to Doctors to get medical advice instead of Yahoo!?
i dont knowWhy don't people go to Doctors to get medical advice instead of Yahoo!?
we have no money or insurance.
Many reasons.

1. Time and money

2. People tend to trust the web more than doctors (which isn't really wise in my opinion)

3. People want to hear similar experiences

4. The web is a place for getting second (or third, fourth, fifth) opinions

5. People like to take matters into their own hands and have control

That said, I'm still against trusting Answers more than doctors. It can be dangerous. For stuff like colds and flus, fine, it'll go away by ifself (NB doctors CAN prescribe antiviral drugs such as zanamivir, oseltamivir, but usually they don't do that because they're REALLY expensive, and the flu would go away by itself, training our immunity)

But for more life-threatening diseases, trusting Answers alone is potentially fatal. Many diseases have similar symptoms but very different outcomes. Even though someone said, ';I had it before';, he/she might be talking about an entirely different disease. There are also many laymen that may not have sufficient knowledge to give correct information. Also, Answers is full of jokers that goes ';OMG u got AIDS'; all the time, so to sum up, Answers is okay for extra information, but when in doubt, always go to a doctor.
a quick and easy way to either get an idea whether you need to get to see a doc/hospital and also make some specialist connections. of course yahoo doesn't replace a doc.. I agree, a lot of people don't have insurance, money or time (i.e. taking a sick day just to sit in a waiting room) to see a doctor.
,lies
to lazy to go
I thinks most are scared of what might happen. Then there is money....it is expensive to go to a doctor, some people don't have insurance...I could not even imagine that cost. Maybe someone else in places like Yahoo has your symptoms and can be diagnosed with a little help from a message board. Can't hurt.
it saves a lot of freakin' time and money. Maybe someone out there has gotten/lived whatever you have/had and they give thier experience. No one says that you have to take it word for word.
hooray!!! for probably the most intelligent question I have ever seen in this forum... I think I'll celebrate with a Red Stripe on that one :)
ALOT OF GOOD ANSWERS--pop roxi pri HIT IT RIGHT ON -- SAME WITH COLDS, FLU, %26amp; JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE, THEY JUST SEND YOU HOME;; WHY GO TO THEM-I MEAN, YES WE SHOULD IF SOMETHING TRAUMATIC IS WRONG- I KNOW IN H.S., HAD A VIRAL INFECTION, I WAS SENT HOME TO DIE, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, BUT GOD DID, HE BROUGHT ME THROUGH IT! IT IS ALOT MORE REASONABLE HERE ON YAHOO!!!!
b/c they need advice for free don't you no you need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$鈥?see a doctor.
Negative
they probably get better results here, have you been to a doctor lately? i think i no more than they do....
Because they want to make sure they aren't over reacting, or maybe they have a phobia of doctors. Perhaps they want to see if anyone else has had similar symptoms or experiences, or they want to find out if what they are experiencing is just normal.
Doctors are mostly trained to dispense pills. Doctors usually don't try out pills before prescribing them. Why wait in line for a expensive sales pitch from a pharmaceutical company, when you can get answers from someone who has experienced your condition?
Probably hoping for advice from someone that has the same thing, so they can feel at ease before they go to a real doctor.

Also, not everyone can afford going to the doctor...and would rather feel out if its important enough or not to go spend $100 just for someone in a white coat to look at ya and say, ';Heres a prescription for antibiotics';
maybe they don't have health insurance
It's possible that someone out there has either had that experience/education or is a doctor, themselves. It's best to understand what you could be dealing with before you get to the doctor. That way, you will know what questions to ask your doctor.
Lots of reasons. They might not have access to a doctor for financial or other reasons. They might be asking for information as it applies to someone else. For example, a child could be asking for information about a condition affecting a parent, or a friend, or other relative, and for reasons of confidentiality, a doctor could not give them that information.

Another reason might be that some people are intimidated by doctors When they do visit the doctor, they nod their heads when s/he tells them something, but they don't really understand what they've been told and they are too shy to tell the doctor they don't know what he means. So they ask Yahoo, and try to get information in terminology that they can understand.
sometimes it can be a viral or bacterial infections. and if it's a viral one then you just wasted your money going to the doctors because with viral infections your body has to fight off the infections itself.
I do sometimes just to get a somewhat idea of the possibilities. It's curiosity.
