I would like to get into Sufism--any advice?

Any good books, websites, groups, you can suggest? Or even tell me your experience with Sufism?I would like to get into Sufism--any advice?
It is to be known that the people who Preached Islam in the Subcontinent after Muslims established themselves there, were the Sufis.

It is widely mistaken that in Sufism a person has to visit the graves of Famous Sufis and pray to God via them. Yes, thats what is Bid ah and Shirk perhaps. but thats not what real Sufism is, that is what that has been influenced by the Hindu Culture of Subcontinent and hence destroying and has destroyed the real Sufism.

The real Sufism is Mysticism, its the persons persuasiveness which enables him to reach Allah, to understand him in a different manner. Its the essence of being meditated and lost into the world of Mystics in order to become a true believer.

If that Sufism you want to practice, its good and okay, But please do not mix up the polluted Sufism with the real one.I would like to get into Sufism--any advice?
Check out http://www.ias.org Non sectarian, non denominational. Some organizations and schools of belief do not need to hate on others because their ideas and methods are so strong and independent that they don't need approval or suffer from disapproval of others. Sufism is one of those Schools.

Don't get into Sufism unless you have deeply learned general Islamic teachings. To try to become Sufi before or without Ilm is more destructive than gaining the benefits of Sufism.

You need to learn

1/ ta3leem at tawheed

2/ ta3leem ash sharee3at

3/ ta3leem al ma3aarif

4/ ta3leem at tareeqat then

5/ ta3leem at tasawwuf

There are many fakes Sufi out there, doing Kufr and Shirk, so absolutely don't take it from the internet. You have to look for a very good teacher for that, you will find and recognize one during the 4th step of learning Insha Allah. And you will have to stay in his company to learn the steps of Sufism as showed in the Qur'aan, when Allah told Moosa A.S to go to Kridr A.S. and you should be very patient even if you find what he is doing is very strange.

And you should be very hard worker to be successful so start to practice with faraaid from now.

Hope that this small advice will help you Insha Allah.
So you want to practice kufr? Trust me, I thought it was appealing at first too, but after some research u find out it's not really Islam. Many Sufis I hear are great ppl, but u don't have to be a Sufi to be a good person, and in that case, u don't have to be a Sufi to get closer to Allah(swt).

Bridgette: I didn't read all of it, but that's not really a good article on Sufism. Sufism I can assure u is a deviance from Islam.

I wish I could send u all a link of a video of a sheikh describing Sufism, but can't from here. just YouTube search bilal philips Sufi.
ok P...I will give u inshaAllah a different point of view because...most of people dont know exactly what sufism is...so of course they think is bidah...and yes there is a lot of bidah in what people practise as sufism nowadays...but u want to get the real sufism...so I will write u more

mmm u are not accepting mails...so I cant write u...but the brother below is right...u really should master everything else, even sharia before coming to sufism. Just bare in mind that the right path is the one of islam and that islam is practical and encompasses all aspects of life, not only the spiritual one. And this is a very big missunderstanding to practise just an ';spiritual islam'; because Allah in the Quran is very clear about the obligations and we can not just pretend islam is not about politics and laws...
Is the term Sufi/Tasawwuf mentioned in Quran? Was Prophet Mohammad PBUH sent to preach Sufism? Was he a Sufi? Did he labled us as Sufi?

If not, then it is not only a Bidah but a deviation. Avoid it. Read Quran and authentic Hadith and become a practicing Muslim. That is the mission of our Prophet PBUH.
I advise you with the advice of ash-Shaafi'ee:

al-Bayhaqee recorded in his Manaaqib ash-Shaafi’iyyah in volume 2 on page 208 that Imaam ash-Shaafi’ee said:

لو أن رجلاً تصوَّف من أول النهار لم يأت عليه الظهر إلا وجدته أحمق

((If a person practiced Tasawwuf (soofism) in the first part of the day, he does not arrive at Dhuhur except as an Idiot))
Should I? I better not Al hamodullah.

I will think about answering this one for serveral min inshAllah.

Look how afraid they are of something they totally don't understand!!!!!!

Quzibillahi Mina shytan Al Rajeem

Bismillahi Al Rahman Al Raheem

There was no divisions of Islam around the Prophet so what you all have done is made error. There is only one Islam and that is all there will ever be, whatever desires you all have to have split this ummah up to make labels is manifest error. Some are guided more than you and you just can't deal with that. So you put a label on it. AstugfarAllah

THERE WAS NO DIVISIONS OF ISLAM AROUND MUHAMMED SAW!

I will pass on answering this, since the intelligence level is not here to understand how one can be so close to Allah SWT.

Allah SWT loves his most steadfast believer, that means putting the world behind you and putting Allah SWT first in all things.

Whatever they want call it, I really don't care what they call it. I can spend 3 days fasting and in total tahweed with Allah and change the entire planet! Al hamdoullah only by the will of Allah.

Again Allah SWT loves his most steadfast believer and ONE DUAH IS GREATER THAN ALL YOU CAN IMAGINE!

The reward is knowledge, not fame or fortune, not silver or gold, and that knowledge is not given to you unless you are highly elevated. That will not come from Sunni or Shia or the rest of them, that will only come from what you all call Sufism.

I am Sunni Muslim, but I have been labelled Sufi by ignorants because they only wish they can come close to Allah SWT like some of us have.

I have done it before and soon I will do it again, and everytime I do, the world changes. I really don't care if they believe me or not, that is what happens everytime and shytan goes mental!

With great knowledge comes a greater power to understand it with responsibility of that power that is given by Allah SWT.

I have come very close to Allah SWT and it was never by being with anyone else but Allah SWT. You can call it whatever you like, I have found a way to come close to Allah SWT and use this knowledge that is aquired.

Read Surah Al Ankaboot that knowledge is in there, and what you can do with it.

Like I said they can call it whatever they like, these labels mean nothing to me, some in the past had the strength of 1000 men, and that was not given to them for free.

Allah SWT chooses whom he wishes, I wish they would read that better, inshAllah, he chooses this!

Salam

Bobby - cracktube and nothing on the entire planet can discribe this but someone that has experienced it. It is in no book!

Who ever thumbs down me on this answer is a total moron obviously! I know who that is!

lala - they are against it because their Iman is weak! Along with their knowledge.
'Sufism' meant to be 'Purification of the self'. Scholars of Islam did approve what's comaptible with Islamic Shareea and it had a place in the Islamic history. Sufiss meant to focus on the spiritual side of Islam. (See what the scholars said about the true 'Tasawwuf' http://www.central-mosque.com/fiqh/earsc…

Nowadays, most of Sufi or being a sufi means selecting most deviated paths which is farer to what Prophet (s.a.w) and his companions were upon. Like calling the dead, worshipping at graves etc. Hence majority of scholars warn about and to be safe, don't go into studying it. It's all mixed up in one name 'Sufi', so common man will find hard to differentiate.

A Muslim by the way must devolop his inner and also his outer qualities. Inner qualities include, piety, patiance, forgiving, rememberance of Allah etc etc. Externally all the rightful actions that comes forth.

When a Muslim prays as it should be prayed, he is in fact devoloping both. When he remembers Allah and recites Holy Quran, he is building it. Finally a Muslim should seek the ways of the Prophet (s.a.w) and his companions and not any ways his own. But there are some systems or sysllibus which some scholars have made in order to be steadfast upon the good deeds.

Like some of us fix, a Quranic class on Mondays for eg: for our conviniance. In fact there was no fixing of days to teach Quran at times of Prophet (s.a.w). Hence we have to differentiate the 'systems' from 'Shareea' before we accuse any other.

Allah is to judge about His sarvents and Allah knows best.
these guys are not dogmatic, but realistic! remain away from sufism, their beliefs and practices are against quraan and sunnah. read the book';the reality of sufism'; by saudi arabian shaykh madhkalee and then you can clearly see that sufism has no place in islaam
I don't know much about Sufism but i have been told by some that it is biddah.

@ rose I thought they were just on a higher level of God conciousness? I really have to investigate now.

I'm intrigued reallly...............

Anyone here Sufi? Can you tell us?

http://www.geocities.com/athens/olympus/…

I found this site which gives an intrduction to Sufism
sufism is deviation from the right path.

may even lead to kufr. i am well exposed to their customs.

major sin :

http://www.aulia-e-hind.com/images/Darga…

they circulate and do sujood to graves of dead people.

put money in the box to get their wishes come true....its all lie

cook food in the name of dead.

women dance in open and music is also played.

some of them even deals with jinns.

a person who deals with jinn needs to repeat shahadah.

never think of going near it.
Bro i cant stop u from going into sufism!

No one can or has the right to!

but i have a request!

U want to b near Allah swt Right?

Who was nearest to him?

What did he do?

Try to Follow him and his sayings rather than Going into new things!

hahahaha@abul haarith

hahahahaaaa

what abt shias?
Get the basics right. Learn Tajweed, Classic Interpretation and tafseer of the Qur'an, Steadfastness in Prayers, and the remaining 5 pillars...

Getting into the sufi stuff is too risky, because most scholars are against it.
I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else and say stay away.

Sufism has a basis in islam, but many of its practices go against islam...pilgrimages to gravesites of ';saints'; for instance.

If anything...maybe looking into doing dhikr..
Sufism is a stage and a very general term, their is no one set of rituals that turns one into a sufi, the first requirement has to be a good Momin :)
Of all the muslims sects and sub-sects, the most peaceful are sufis and koranist.

i don't know much abut sufism, but that they seek to find Allah through devotion
If you want to learn Sufi Islam %26gt;

Google Tahir Ul Qadri . His Works are really good .

Most of the People here are misguided by Wahabies ..
Bidah! Don't do it.
Yeah: Don't.

It will be a horrible mistake.
well i dont know much but www.askimam.org
